Downriver Literacy Council Do you need help in Reading or Math? We will evaluate your skills and match you with a trained volunteer to help improve your reading or math. Total privacy! Call 734-246-4633 and ask for the Literacy Program.
Tutor Training Are you interested in becoming a VOLUNTEER and helping others? Is READING your specialty? You will be asked to donate two hours per week in a classroom or with an individual student during the school year. We always need READING tutors to help student build their skills. Unemployed adult students are returning to Asher for high school completion or GED certification and NEED YOU! Reading Training is a 12-hour course: Thursday, February 4, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday, February 6, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Tuesday, February 9, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Call 734-246-4633 for more information. English Classes for the Foreign Born (ESL) English for Foreign Born classes teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for those adults whose primary language is not English. Winter 2016 Evening Classes:
ABE/ESL READING LAB - This class offers individualized learning designed to provide rapid improvement for those with little or no reading skills. ESL BEGINNING - In a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere, adults whose primary language is not English will learn the basic patterns of written and spoken English language. ESL CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH AND READING – Students will focus on role-playing and other activities that center around building confidence in speaking English. Short selections of reading are also emphasized. ESL ENGLISH APPLICATIONS – Students will learn and apply realistic English language skills in everyday applications. This includes workplace and American cultural lessons in order to improve reading, listening, speaking and writing English. ESL ENGLISH BASICS – This class will focus on enhancing beginning English skills for ESL students. It will use reading, writing, and speaking to aid students with increasing the acquisition of English. Adult Basic Education (ABE) This program is designed for ADULTS who want to improve their basic reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. Winter 2016 Daytime Classes:
