HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION &
GED REGISTRATION
You must register for high school and GED classes in person.
Registration is held at Asher School, 14101 Leroy in Southgate at the
following times and dates:
Open Registration:
Monday through Friday
January 25 -29
12:00 noon to 7:00 pm
Classes begin Monday, February 1, 2016
Late Registration begins February 1
WHAT TO EXPECT AT
REGISTRATION
- Plan to spend approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete registration.

You will take a 2 hour assessment
(TABE or CASAS) in Reading and Math. This assessment will help us
determine what classes to recommend.
- You will meet with an Advisor
for 10-30 minutes to pick your classes.
- To ensure proper class
placement when you enroll, bring a copy of your transcript from
your last high school(s).
- Please do not bring children to
registration.
- For those students interested in
daytime child care, a $40 non-refundable fee per child is due at
registration for child care.
- Registration Fee:
- Students 16 - 19 years of age on September 1, 2015: NO FEE
- Students 20 years of age or older on September 1, 2015: A non-refundable fee of $7 per class for most classes, $30 for GED and Pre-GED and GED, and $30 for new ESL students.
Asher School provides teacher-led, face-to-face instruction by highly-qualified teachers.
Do you need an appointment to register?
YES...if you’re 16 or 17 on September 1, 2015. A parent or guardian will need to come in and complete application paperwork. The parent will need to bring in the following documents: parent’s driver’s license and student’s birth certificate. (Immunization records must be up to date. Contact your child’s doctor.). After all required documentation is completed and secured, the parent and student will be contacted to make an appointment.
NO...if you’re 18 or older on September 1, 2015. You may register on the days and times listed above.

Alternative & Adult Education - Classes are open to anyone 16 years or older as of September 1, 2015, resident or non-resident, who would like to earn his/her diploma.
Asher Alternative High School is available for students 16-17 years of age as of September 1, 2015. Prior to registration, a parent or guardian will need to come in and complete application paperwork. The parent will need to bring in the following documents: parent’s driver’s license and student’s birth certificate. (Immunization records must be up to date. Contact your child’s doctor.) After all required documentation is completed and secured, the parent and student will be contacted to make an appointment. The Alternative High School is designed for those students who are seeking an alternative to their previous education experience and are committed to earning their diploma. Students can choose a full-time schedule that suits individual needs. Options include varied schedules: Monday-Friday, Monday-Thursday, traditional school day or late morning start.
Adult Education Program is available for students 18 years of age or older as of September 1, 2015 interested in high school completion. Students may choose a part-time or full-time schedule, daytime or evening, based on each student’s credit needs and class availability.
Registration Fee:
• Students 16-19 years of age as of September 1, 2015: NO FEE
• Students 20 years of age or older as of September 1, 2015: A non- refundable fee of $7 per class for most classes, $30 for GED and Pre-GED, and $30 for new ESL students.
SACE reserves the right to accept or deny admittance to the program. |

GED Certificate Holders
- Classes are open to any student who has a GED certificate and would like to earn a high school diploma. (See Fees above.) |
Please note: Public high school students currently attending a
traditional day school will not be permitted to enroll in credit
recovery classes in the adult high school or alternative education.
NON-TRADITIONAL CREDITS
For students who should have graduated prior to 2012, in
addition to past credits earned in high school, non-traditional credits
may be granted for work/volunteer experience, military service, trade
school courses, college courses, and/or other approved experiences
Non-traditional credits may be applied after the completion of residency
requirements; other restrictions may apply.
CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
To qualify for a
diploma, students must earn 21 credits.
Residency requirement:
A minimum of 2 credits must be earned at Southgate Adult Education,
regardless of credit standing, to earn a high school diploma. Exception:
First semester Advantage Academy students must complete a full-time
schedule to fulfill residency requirements.
